No time to blog!

Where does the time go in Hong Kong?? Merry Christmas!
As a special present I have made a list of 10 - jolliest to the grinchiest:

1. The Symphony of Lights at Tsim Sha Tsui.

2. Swarovski Holiday MTR Takeover

Swarovski - a breathtaking walk through an MTR tunnel at Central. (Or stand on the walking conveyor belt if you're really feeling like a lazy bastard.) My pic of it was blurry and won't do it justice, but I did find this above shot on 622's flickr. It was quite magical... I was in awe and amazement. I wonder if those snowflakes were crystal, glass, plastic, or a hybrid?

This was also in the station. I hypothesis that it might be a Sanrio species of some sort... they also featured this creature on limited edition Octopus cards. Kinda cute in a punk queen evil way.

3. Malls. And Their Trees.

French CanCan performers came to Elements Mall and put on a show for two levels of onlookers. The stage looked awesome. There were a lot of racy cute hanky and spanky in some of their dance routines - I can't help wondering how the reactions from Hongers would differ if those performers were Asian.

A giant stiletto.

A red feather boa mannequin tree.

Balls. Red balls, gold balls, green balls, white balls, silver balls... and blue balls.

Thomas the Engine made an appearance at a mall in Tsuen Wan.

A TREE ON A SHIP! Beat that.

Okay a tree made out of arrows?? How convenient. Unless there was a strong gust of wind...

Harbour City Mall - the theme was time. So you see a lot of clocks and etc etc there, clever and classic. Reminds me of that Alice in Wonderland clock bunny guy.

IFC's Ferris Wheel display. Looks like fun, but too bad you can't ride in it.

More balls, discoballs, going up a minimall in Causeway Bay.

A celebrity event called "Stella So的奇妙聖誕" at the mall in Po Lam which featured 王祖藍 Wong Cho Lam the day that I was there. Other celebrities that participated in this public event on other days include Gillian Chung, G.E.M., Bosco Wong, Linda Chung, and Raymond Lam. I AM SO F*CKIN PISSED OFF I ONLY GOT TO SEE WONG CHO LAM!!! OMG AND RAYMOND LAM PERFORMED A SONG I REALLY FRIGGIN LIKE. If you didn't know, the last four are BIG in Hong Kong, especially the last two. I HATE LIFE!!! whyyyyy?!?! sigh......I will survive... But here is what I got stuck with - a closeup of Wong Cho Lam with a santagirl and a guilty looking tree behind him. He's currently in the TVB series Off Pedder, and he sang this song live. It was honestly just terribly off note and the events were lame, but I watched it anyway because it's not often I'll get to see him full sized out of his little TV box.

Moving on with life, here is Indigo Child by Carrie Chau, very whimsy daisy and cute.

4. Outdoors Lights Spectaculars

The Peninsula Hotel front was magnificent. And here we have a bunch of building lights in TST and Hong Kong Island near the waters usually:

5. Taking Caroling to New Heights

Here is the caroling bus/van where carolers will stand and sing in choir form throughout the streets. I just realized that guy is doing a V sign at me when I was taking the pic hahah nice. And below are carolers not on wheels.

6. Deck the Halls out Karaoke

Nothing, I just thought the karaokes there are 300% more cooler than whatever we have here because 1 they include a drink or two in the price of the hour or room, 2 they have a buffet option that you can add on for an additional few bucks p/p, and 3 the buffet includes a chocolate fondue complete with marshmallows, melons, and strawberries! Okay, this isn't just restricted to Christmas, but to have karaoke like this IS like having Christmas everyday.

7. Discovery Bay Candlelit Beach

Discovery Bay was offering a holiday special that lasted till the end of December where if you spend $100hkd for dinner p/p, you can then redeem a ferry ticket back to Central Piers on the house. It's only half an hour away with a whole monopoly of international cuisine, so why not have a nice meal there and check out the romantic scenery? During the holidays, fake candles in the shapes of letters, messages, hearts, and joy are lit up on the beach when dusk falls. It's times like these where a boyfriend would be fitting. But I went with a girl and had a great time photoshooting each other next to lamposts and waters!

Gingerbread children on D Deck? Angry, pretty, and tired next to a reindeer with candy cane legs... how delicious looking. I must break one off.

8. Window Displays on the Street

These remind me of the window displays we always see in 34th Street or Bloomingdale's 59th Street. Only it's on the street.

9. Bootlegged Xmas Cheer Sightings

Really? REALLY NOW, Calvin Clein hires trees?? TREES???

One disgruntled elf hanging off a rope ladder coming up @ Knutsford Terrace.

The most depressed Linglings I have ever witnessed in my life. And what is wrong with that snowman, he look like a hand grenade saying, "I surrender." Don't even ask me what that is on the right hand side.

Toys"R"Us. I kinda get it now. Toys are us. Okie dokes.

10. And the Winner Goes to...

A non-functioning Santa Claus half-sock-half-not stocking decoration that we found laying around in our hut.

And a Happy New Year to you too!

Underwear & Clotheslines

Where am I? I am typing on my smooshy-hard piece of a mattress at 6 in the morning from jetlag recovery on a laptop that is running on 16% battery life, so I’m pressing Ctrl+S every 20 words or so.

I am finally in Hong Kong. I will be staying in Cheung Chau Island for the next month or two at this villagey house my gramps, grams, dad, and four aunts grew up in. A 30-50 minute boat ride away from Central HK, Cheung Chau is literally like the Long Island of New York. People come in here by ferry on weekends for a weekend getaway/vacation of beaching, fishing, and chillaxing. Only CC has no space for real cars to roll around in; there are, however, many many bikes of all ages, sizes, and colors everywhere you look. The housing and residencies in CC are not the newest thing in the world- the walls are paper thin, the windows have no nets, and you might come across the occasional ‘underwears & clotheslines’ scene when you walk through the winding streets. And the furniture here is more bootlegged practical than IKEA functional, but it all adds to the character of this hutty house. I have to admit that it did freaked me out how dirty looking one of the walls looked, so I think I might have to get a small bucket of fresh paint and give it a facelift one day. This place is chuck full of scars and histories that it’s just a nice sympathetic moment in time to imagine just how 2 people with 5 kids can jigsaw up together to sleep/study/eat/live in such a confined space. MY seven people.

Low Battery. You should change your battery or switch to outlet power immediately to keep from losing your work. Unfortunately, the outlet converter I brought with me is outside in the closet, and it’s not cooperating with me anyways, so stay tuned for another post on my Asia Adventures!

Continental Comedy

Even though there was a baby randomly kicking me from behind me and not letting me catch some sleep with its crying tantrums, my 15+ hours flight was actually not as grueling as I first thought it would be THANKS to in-flight entertainment!

Tunes. They even let me add favorites to a jukebox. But it doesn’t autoplay down the list though so I guess I can’t call it a playlist.

Mad movies. They even had one of my personal favorites, The Promise. Amazing cinematography and colorful characters complete the fantasy touches. And I watched a few hour long stand up comedy shows while I’m at it. Ray Romano looks doofy but he had me rollin in my seat for his whole act. I’m not that impressed with Chris Rock though. His ideas and humor’s not THAT funny- he just adds the word fuck 50x and repeats how much he hates things 10x with vulgarity. Ellen Degeneres was awesome with her Then and Now tour set. There was another fat guy I watched, but I fell asleep until the baby behind me started growling and clawing away again.

Airplane food wasn’t too scary! There are three shrimp in my salad and there is sirloin in my steak. And they had breakfast options of either an omelet or dimsum. Obviously I opted for the dimsum but… didn’t eat it after seeing how it looked like. But they did give me a Haagen Daz Vanilla ice cream with a built in spoon under the lid- how flippin cool is that??
