A moment of Rescue

Writings from March 2009:

So there I sat with the chilly cold air - my down jacket and my dark brown stiletto boots, crosslegged in the middle of the block, looking left and right for any signs of familiar life that I might know of.

On my right, she was waiting. She and her big camel brown purse pacing back and forth occasionally checking the cell phone for any signals of recognition. And I looked to my left, a tall slim guy with a dance of cigarette smoke following behind him. Messenger bag, nicely casual, very neat. He was walking towards her.

Her smile grew as she neared him. He gives her a tight hug, and kisses her on her ear. They pause there in silence for a two second embrace. No words spoken, he takes her big heavy camel purse from her grasp, throws it over his shoulder. They move along, hand in hand. I watched. They eventually disappeared, and faded into the streetlight corner.

I smile and look down, pulling up my collar as I sat on the cold concrete edge, waiting. What is taking so long? I look to my left. A tall figure was walking towards me, suited fully as dark as the night. He smiles, starts to speed up, even starts to run a little bit. I never realized how handsome he looked when he’s all cleaned up…

His pace steadies. He gave me one good look, and takes off his earmuffs to put it on my head. No words spoken, I got up and we walked together.
