NY Philharmonic

The New York Philharmonic was playing in Central Park. Picnic time!

This is a picture that completely summarizes the desperation of trying to find where everyone is. Everyone had cell phones whipped out and texting and calling and looking. It took my friend and I a good half an hour to find the "I'm by the orange and blue balloons" spot. Because there was only, oh, about 100+ different balloon posts in that area?! Central Park was packed FULL like Sardines. As seen below.

I did not know Target also sponsored this event! After the show ended, we found some leftovers that the violinists and peoples ate. Those chocolate ball things were to die for.

TargetHighLineStreetFestival

Recently opened up to public, Target sponsored a great street festival at the elevated High Line park today!

I can't get over the uncontrollable excitement that washes inside me whenever I walk on cobblestone roads in NYC. It's just impossible to not feel like it's plain dandy fun to walk on bricks stuck in the floor! It is also entertaining to watch girls with heels get stuck a little, trip a few times, and die.

This is the largest lemonade stand ever in the world... it doesn't look very big in this picture, but it was the size of a real water tank. And also, check out that weird white embryo balloon thing in the back against the wall of that building... I still don't know what exactly it is, but I like it sticking around and hanging on there.

The complimentary lemonade was NOT crappy, and it definitely HIT the spot!! Ah, the cups are compostable - I didn't notice that when I was sipping on it merrily down the streets. Besides booths of activities for kids and things, there were...

gentlemen singing...

a child taking picture with weird springy creatures...

a pony-horse and a cowboy...

and... a sea monster?

And did I mention gyrating shrimp?

I'm guessing I missed the fun earlier when there was watermelon being chomped on?

High Line used to be a rail line in the 1930's to carry freight trains, but it has gone through a makeover to be a very chill, take a stroll and take in the sights type of park... open daily 7am-10pm!

There were SO many people at the festival. It was like lining up for Six Flags Great Adventure to get up to High Line. But the line went relatively okay/fast. This pic above makes us looks like we're in jail recess.

This is the hardcore line that stretched a few blocks.

Bright yellow chairs.

Up top, there was also a section with spa-like wooden recline benches. Best for laying.

When exiting, I realized I would've never seen many things about the city if I had stayed downstairs...

like this crazy crop circle of a graffiti done on a rooftop.

J4TH

Got a corner standing spot right in front of Popeyes just in time for the 94th annual Nathan's hot dog eating contest!

A dancing hot dog mascot behind some contestants.

I love you Sonya. You are so hot !!

And of course EVERYONE in the crowd loved Kobayashi.

2009 Results: 3x winner Joey Chestnut ended up winning with a new world record of 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

Beach was packed with umbrella, seal sloths, and drowning fish.

A very hairy whale indeed.

Consumptions. And trash, lots of it.

And this is how funnel cakes were born, kids.

Festival by the Sea was pretty damn cool, I'd definitely be back to check things out again. The stuff sold are yummy, interesting, and random for cheap flea prices. If you want to be a vendor, the booths start at only 40 bucks a day!

Forgot to check this out for 50¢ - will go another time. Does ALIVE Angel Snake Girl have a shorter name? What will her classmates think of her?? Perhaps she should join the Ringling circus next door when she grows up!?

MAD balloons.

West side fireworks mob crazy, happy independence day!

Red Stripe + The Fader + NYC = Yeay (?)

The first time I've ever had Red Stripe Jamaican Lager was in Atlanta. You weird little pill bottle full of delicious beer bubbles... you are my favorite! But as great as the DJ mixes were at the loft, it just didn't really float my boat. I was disappointed with the setup that looked like it was too thrown together at the last minute, and I was bored half the time from not doing anything but standing around. They could've added a simple guitar hero area or a turntables photo-op station/booth somewhere whomp whomp. Or get some performers/dancers pumpin!

For those souls who don't know, meet Red Stripe :)

Here is a huge contributing reason for disapproval - the ladies room had two bathrooms, one of which was out of order and the other ... was missing a flippin door. NOW is the time to say wtf??

And this ghetto sign scribbled on their very own notebook paper taped up to the bathroom door hahah.

This mural thing makes me very very happy. Someone said it looks like a giant pop tart.

But there was a fun Ah-Ha moment when we opened up the goodie bag ...

... a 1 gigabyte USB drive with 5 free songs from the night - how cute!
